Tourism has not yet invaded this small village that was once known for its sugar cane.

The main street leading up through San Pedro is called Avenida Marqués del Duero. This street is lined with small restaurants, bars and cafes. Even small shops can be found here. If you go into the surrounding alleys, you will find a lot of small Spanish restaurants where tapas are served with happy music and also small Spanish shops that, for example, sell flamenco clothes.

There are also many children’s clothing stores with incredibly cute clothes here. In San Pedro you can also find Chinese restaurants and the international chains McDonalds and Burger King. Once you have reached the main street, you are in the square “Plaza de la Iglesia”. Here is a church, fountain and restaurants.

Here you will find many people sitting on the park benches and talking while resting their legs. If you are looking to buy food, you can find a few grocery stores in the central part of the village. If you drive a little way up on the outskirts of the village you will find a slightly larger grocery store, Mercadona, where you will find a large selection of meat, fish and vegetables.

In the early 2000’s, a new area of San Pedro called Nueva Alcantara began to emerge. It is the whole area between the sea and the boulevard that counts as Nueva Alcantara. There are a large number of newly built homes, a paddle tennis club, gym and an international school in the area. Many who bought a home here have it as a holiday home, which means that the proportion of non-Spaniards is high here.

San Pedro has previously been divided into two parts due to the highway that passed there. On one side of the road lay the village and on the other side lay the beach. Now, however, a tunnel has been built where the motorway runs instead and on top of this, a boulevard with playgrounds, footbridges, fountains and restaurants has been built.

The footbridge is designed by the local architect Juan Antonio Fernandez and will mimic the sea. The creation is called “Un Mar de Sensaciones” which means “a sea of emotions”. Many people gather here in the evenings and it is buzzing with life. It is above all many families with children who go to the large nice playgrounds that are located here. Here you will find six different playgrounds where there are many different play equipment that suits children of different ages.

At the boulevard you will also find an amphitheater where performances and concerts are held. Especially on occasions when there are festivals. The boulevard is also a gathering place if you want to ride rollerblades, skateboards, scooters, roller skates, bicycles, Segway’s or something else due to the paved rink that is at one end.

It is also very nice to sit down at one of the many bars or restaurants that are here and just enjoy all the hustle and bustle. There are also toilets in connection with the restaurants. Everything is very clean and maintained by a team of employees, which contributes to the area maintaining a high standard.

San Pedro is located in the lowlands that give it its name Vega de San Pedro Alcantara. San Pedro belongs to the municipality of Marbella and is located in the central part of the Costa del Sol on a wide coastal strip and surrounded by mountain ranges.

To the east you will find the Sierra Blanca mountain range with its highest peak Lastonar.

It is better known as La Concha (shell) because of its ribbed appearance. A little further north are the Sierra del Real (or as it is also called the Real del Duque mountain range) and the Sierra Palmitera.

Tolox and Sierra de las Nieves ranges

Behind these, the enormous peaks of the Tolox and Sierra de las Nieves ranges. To the west is the Monte Mayor mountain range and at the mountain line is the Sierra Bermeja mountain range. Along the mountain sides at the foot of these mountains flow three rivers Guadalmina, Guadiaiza and Rio Verde. The southern border is the coast which consists of a lot of beaches.

Nearby is the famous beach of Puerto Banus and to the west the beaches of Cortijo Blanco, San Pedro Alcantara and Guadalmina. You can see many empty land areas in their places at the same time as some new apartment complexes are being built.

From the main street that leads up to the town, you can also walk or drive down instead on the main road “Avenida del Mediterraneo” and then come down to the beach.

Along the beach stretches a long nice beach promenade. At the ends of the promenade, the restaurants are located along the promenade and in between you can find some ice cream kiosks.

On the beach in front of some of the restaurants you can find sun loungers with parasols that you can rent.

Otherwise, most people bring their own chairs and parasols down to the beach. A number of different training equipment have also been built along the promenade so that you can easily take a workout and then cool off in the water.

There are also several showers along the beach so you can cool off or rinse off before or after a dip in the sea. There are many parking spaces along the entire street next to the promenade, so it is no problem if you take the car to the beach.
