The architect Noldi Schreck had been commissioned by Prince Alfonso de Hohenlohe to convince Jose Banus that it was a suitable area to build huge skyscrapers on Puerto Banus. The skyscrapers were to be built for wealthy families.
Jose Banus became the largest developer of housing on the Costa del Sol. The port got its name and he became known as the “builder of the regime”. In 1970 they had a lavish opening of the complex.
In 2011, Qatar’s Sheikh Abdullah Ben Nasser Al-Thani developed an area east of Marbella La Bajadilla. This area would compete with Puerto Banus getting a quay for cruise ships, five star hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and supermarkets.
