Alhaurín el Grande is located between the Sierra de las Nieves and the Sierra de Mijas. The tourist resorts of the Costa del Sol are only a few kilometers away.
About 30 km west of Málaga in Andalusia is the city of Alhaurín el Grande, with a population of around 23,200. It can be accessed via the old road N-340 or the A-366. Those coming from Málaga can take the Cártama road to Alhaurín el Grande.
Once there, the traveler can get to know a city whose first inhabitants came from the New Stone Age. Then came the Iberians, the Phoenicians, the Greeks and the Romans, of which contemporary testimonies can still be admired today. These include the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, the Santa Vera Cruz Chapel and the San Sebastián Chapel.
The town hall Casa Consistorial, the Roman arches Arco del Cobertizo, the Fuente de Lucena fountain and the Moorish remains at the fortress of Fahala and the watchtower of Ubrique are also worth seeing. This enabled the city to preserve its Andalusian village structure and its historical appearance.
In summer, the temperatures in Alhaurín el Grande rise above 30 ° C, so that many residents go to the banks of the Río Fahala.
Those who like to play golf will find the challenging Alhaurín Golf course in the village.
Especially in the streets around the town hall and on Calle Grand Bernan there is a large selection of restaurants, in which, among other things, typical regional dishes such as stews and soups with cod are served.
